The Website Cirurgiaonline aims at putting forward research studies by staff co-ordinated by Prof. Dr. João Luiz Moreira Coutinho Azevedo, Department of Surgery, Federal University of São Paulo - Escola Paulista de Medicina.

The surgical staff has a policy, tried and tested by many years of concrete experience and hard work in ambulatories, infirmanies and surgical theatres. This focuses on the principle that only empirical scientific evidence ought to drive a surgeon in his choice of medical conduct. The paramountcy of this principle is to the detriment of other such considerations aspure and simple tradition and the sterile argument of authority (magister dixit).

The atmosphere amongst the members of staff is of complete freedom. Our icon is science, not the scientist in the choice of surgical conduct, it matters more an effective outcome and less those theories that attempt to explain the involved biological phenomena themselves, no matter how elaborate they may be. The emphasis of our research is on operatory techniques, coherently with the view that this is the view that this is the principal aspect of a surgical science-art.
